Why Cert ID

How Does CERT ID Determine the Length of Time the Auditor Will Spend at Each Site?

An essential component of the service provided to each client by its certification body is the calculation of the amount of time that an auditor spends onsite for the BRC audit.  In order for a client to receive the maximum benefit from the certification process, the duration of the audit must be optimized to fit each unique set of circumstances.

Prior to January 2011, each cert body had performed the calculation based on its own internal set of guidelines.  Now, the BRC has introduced a standardized methodology so that each client can be assured of the appropriate amount of time for the auditor to be onsite.

Under the new BRC guidelines the three basic indicators used to determine audit duration are: the number of employees per main shift, the size of the facility and the number of HACCP studies.  In addition, there is a list of “correction factors” that can increase or decrease audit length.  Some of these are:  the complexity of the manufacturing process, the labor-intensity of the manufacturing process and the number of product lines.

At CERT ID Services, we’ll work with you to get the clearest representation possible of your site so that the prescribed audit duration calculation is right-sized to your operation, and you can derive the maximum benefit from your certification.
